in these chapters they are all traped inside there, "nest or tree house." in these chapters elizabeth is in the "tree house" where it is pitch black and the flash light battries are dying. suzie is sleeping and then elizabeth starts crying and at that part david is (to me) starts comforting her and then he wants to go and then he insist that he will go down stairs and get some tools so they can build a raft so they can get out.
the characters are developing in this story to more caring and comforting because elizabeth and david are acting more nicer to each other. suzie is more or less the same acting like a little angle because elizabeth says that suize was a little angel
they face big new challenges because they need to escape and the water it rising and downstairs is flooded
